Sorbus Autumn Spire-Mountain Ash, Grafted in 3 L Pot

Sorbus are native to large areas of the northern hemisphere. At the time of writing (late 2020) there is a great deal of review in progress with regard to the taxonomy and nomenclature of Sorbus, but for now I consider it wise to retain the current system. Sorbus Autumn Spire arose as a seedling of S. Joseph Rock. Autumn Spire is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. A superb small, columnar, deciduous tree with typical, attractive, pinnate foliage which produces magnificent autumn colours of red and purple, which contrast beautifully with the abundant yellow berries that follow the corymbs of white flowers produced in spring. Will grow well in full sun or partial shade in most fertile moist soils. May be short lived in chalky soils. Is tolerant of pruning so can be grown in a large pot. Use a good quality John Innes compost and we recommend you add an 8-9 month duration controlled release fertiliser such as Osmocote pro, annually in early spring, to ensure sufficient nutrient. One application is sufficient for the whole year. Do not let the pot dry out. These plants have been stopped at approx. one mtr to encourage short trunk, branching plants.
