The species Miscanthus sinensis is native to mountainous and lowland areas throughout Japan as well as China and Korea. Miscanthus sinensis Purpurascens is a superb, semi evergeeen grass forming clumps of narrow, erectly held, green leaves. Large burgundy plumes are produced earlier than most Miscanthus and turn silver with age. The foliage turns to an exceptional red/orange in autumn and lasts through much of the winter. Easy to grow in full sun or semi shade in almost any soil that does not waterlog. Ideal as a statement plant as part of a mixed border or in pots and containers. If planting in pots or containers use a humus rich compost and ensure the pot is well drained. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring at 2/3rds of the recommended rate. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
