Choisya are native to the southern USA and most of Mexico. Choisya x dewitteana Aztec Pearl is a hardy, evergreen shrub that has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. A remarkable hybrid and was the first in the genus. Raised by Peter Moore (who is also responsible for raising many new varieties and cultivars of Buddleja) in 1982 as a cross between C. dumosa var. arizonica and C. ternata. An elegant, domed shrub of open habit with attractive aromatic leaves made up of 3-5 long slender leaflets. Flowers are produced in clusters in abundance in early summer and again in late autumn. White, pink in bud and flushed pink on the reverse side of the petals, they are larger than C. ternata and highly fragrant, similar to that of Orange blossom. A plant of considerable merit. Easy to grow in full sun in any well drained soil, including chalky ones and very tolerant of pruning. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
