Solanum crispum Glasnevin is a distinct and scrambling semi-evergreen climber introduced from Chile around 1830. It is ideal for growing with supports against a wall or fence or can be left to clamber over an object. Solanum crispum Glasnevin has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit and was selected for its extended flowering period and production of masses of beautiful intense violet/blue flowers with a distinct yellow centre from June to September. The flowers are slightly fragrant and are followed by yellowish white berries. In mild winters it will retain some of the leaves. For those of you with chalky soil, Solanum is a must! This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or a container. If planting in a pot or other container use a good quality multi purpose compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8 -9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole season.
