Prunus x subhirtella are unknown in the wild having originally arisen as a cross between Prunus incisa and Prunus pendula. They are some of the most delightful of the winter and early spring flowering trees and additionally provide attractive autumn tints. Prunus x subhirtella Autumnalis Rosea is a small, deciduous, tree that produces clusters of small pink, flushed white, semi double flowers from November to March. There will rarely be a winter's day when this lovely tree does not have some blooms open and in mild weather flushes of flowers are produced. Easy to grow in a sunny location in almost any soil. These trees grow particularly well in chalky soils and are favoured for winter flower arrangements. Superb as a garden plant or grown in a pot. When growing in a pot or other container use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. Please Note. These plants are grown as large shrubs not trees.
