Prunus are a large genus of over 200 different species native to much of the northern hemisphere. Prunus x incam Okame was raised by Captain Collingwood Ingram and has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Okame is one of the finest early flowering cherries producing masses of carmine rose flowers in early spring, before the leaves fully emerge. The leaves are bronzed as they emerge, turn green in summer and lovely tints of orange and red in autumn. A superb small tree or shrub for the garden. Easy to grow in most soils, including chalky ones, in full sun or semi shade. Can be grown in a pot or container. Use a good quality John Innes compost and we recommend you add an 8-9 month duration controlled release fertiliser annually to ensure sufficient nutrients.
The plants in this listing are grown as multi branched shrubs, ideal for locations where space is limited or in pots and containers.
