Prunus are a large genus of over 200 different species native to much of the northern hemisphere. Prunus Accolade arose as a cross between P. sargentii and P. x subhirtella and is an outstanding, deciduous, flowering cherry, generally regarded as one of the finest flowering cherries and granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Accolade produces masses of large, semi double, large, rich pink flowers, which open from dark pink buds, in early spring, before the leaves fully emerge. The flowers are produced in drooping clusters. Leaves are bronzed as they emerge, turn green in summer and show lovely tints of orange and red in autumn. A superb small tree for the garden. Easy to grow in most soils, including chalky ones, in full sun or semi shade. Can be grown in a pot or container. Use a good quality John Innes compost and we recommend you add an 8-9 month duration controlled release fertiliser annually to ensure sufficient nutrients. The plants in this listing are grown to be branched shrubs, but it is possible to stake a leader branch and grow them as a tree. This listing is for a multi branched, large shrub in a 5 litre pot that will flower in the next season. The image of a plant in a wooden photo booth is from the currently selling batch
