The origin of Philadelphus coranarius Aurea is rather obscure but is believed to be northern and central Italy, Austria and central Romania. It is one of the best Philadelphus and a RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. Leaves open bright yellow and slowly fade to greenish yellow by summer. Creamy white flowers in June and July and like most of the Philadelphus they also come with a strong heady fragrance which is very attractive to butterflies! What more could you ask from one plant! Easy to grow in almost any soil with shade from strong direct sunlight. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or container. If it becomes to large it can easily be cut back in spring. When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer.
