Magnolia Honey Tulip is a rare and expensive Magnolia. Bred in New Zealand by Mark Jury, who's life quest has been to breed Magnolias. Honey Tulip is the yellow version of Black Tulip and is a truly magnificent small, deciduous tree. In spring, before the extra large foliage emerges, abundant butterscotch yellow, perfectly formed, cup shaped flowers smother the tree. They hold their shape and are relatively long lasting. This is the first Magnolia to have this shape of flower and the first of its type to flower before the foliage emerges, so the flowers are unobscured. It is not uncommon for the plant to bloom again during late summer and autumn. A magnificent plant and a triumph for a life time of Magnolia development. Easy to grow in a sun or semi shade location in most acid to neutral soils. Will not grow well in alkaline soils. Planted in a good location it is not likely to need pruning but this can be done sparingly after flowering and when all danger of frost has passed. Really a stunningly beautiful tree. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality ericaceous compost. This plant is not ericaceous but prefers an acidic compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. These are grafted plants to ensure they are true to type and long lasting. They have a stem of 80 to 100cm tall, excluding the pot and have been stopped, so are producing side branches. They are mature enough to flower in season.
