Liriope mauscari originate from China, Taiwan and Korea. The genus name honours a Greek woodland nymph, Liriope, the mother of Narcissus. Liriope muscari are tufted, tuberous rooted, perennials with strap like, arching leaves, giving a grass like appearance. They grow in clumps which slowly expand by short stolons, but do not spread aggressively. One of their endearing qualities is the ability to grow almost anywhere from full sun to full shade in almost any soil, as long as drought conditions are not too prolonged. Liriope muscari Ingwersen lovely dark green foliage and can be used as a grass substitute for lawns. From midsummer into late Autumn, stems of lavender colour flowers, similar to grape hyacinths, are produced. The plants can be lifted and divided every 3-4 years or just left to form large and larger clumps. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. This plant likes to be moist.
