Indigofera amblyantha are native across a wide range of tropical and sub tropical locations. Indigofera amblyantha was introduced from China in 1908 by William Purdon. A deciduous, medium size, shrub with spreading branches that is rare in cultivation. This beautiful shrub, is renowned for its long flowering period, from late spring to late summer, when the slightly arching branches are laden with short, clusters of small, pea like, shrimp pink coloured flowers on upright racemes. The foliage is also very attractive being made up of small, pinnate, divided, mid green leaves. Easy to grow in a full sun location in all but very heavy soils. Indigofera amblyantha is particularly tolerant of dry soil. In very harsh winters it can suffer some damage but it always grows back in spring! Will tolerate hard pruning in spring if required to control growth or reshape. Plant in the border or grow in a pot or other container. When growing in a pot or other container, use a good John Innes No.2 compost to which 20% by volume of Horticultural Grit has been added to improve drainage. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires.
