Hydrangea paniculata are known for their sheer size and ''show'' power of their flowers. Originating in Japan, China and Taiwan, various breeding programs have produced improved varieties. This variety was introduced by a French Hydrangea breeder. So often new varieties and cultivars are less than the marketing would have you believe. Not so with Vanille Fraise, which is a really exceptional variety. Producing very impressive, large, loose pyramid-shaped clusters of flowers that form at the tips of red-stemmed branches in summer, they can't help but make a statement in any garden. Emerging creamy-white the florets turn shades of rich rosy pink as they age, before finally taking on rich deep pink tones. Most noticeable is the considerably more compact growth, so better suited to smaller gardens, patios and containers. Easy to grow in full sun to semi shade in almost any reasonably drained soil.
