Hydrangea paniculata are known for the sheer size and ''show'' power of their flowers. Originating in Japan, China and Taiwan, various breeding programmes have produced improved varieties. Limelight is generally accepted as one of the best and has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. An exceptional variety for its impressive dense pyramid-shaped clusters of flowers which form at the tips of the branches in summer. They emerge lime green and turn shades of pink as they age, before finally taking on deep pink tones . Like most Hydrangeas the colour will vary depending on soil and growing conditions. Easy to grow in full sun or semi shade in most fertile, moist soils. Does not grow well in chalky soils. Hydrangea paniculata Limelight can be grown in the garden or in a pot or container. In containers use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade, become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in late spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. A vigorous grower that will need pruning.
