Primula veris or Cowslip are native to much of western Asia and temperate Europe including the Uk. except the more northern areas of Scotland. Once a common sight, this wonderful spring flower has been in serious decline for decades. It is illegal to remove from the wild as a plant or cut flower, so these plants are all seed raised in our nursery. A truly lovely member of the Primula family it has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. In April and May single stems of drooping clusters of wonderfully fragrant yellow flowers arise above the semi evergreen basal rossette. In favourable conditions they will form clumps. Performs well in full sun or semi shade. Prefers a constantly moist acid to neutral soil and will tolerate wet soils. Will naturalise in grassland and wooded margins where they are not disturbed and the soil is not high in nitrate. Use in a mixed planting, or in groups where a massed effect can be quite stunning. Can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. Primula veris die back in summer. Around mid August they will begin to develop new leaves and will continue to increase in size until flowering the following spring.

This listing is for three well established, large, multi crown plants that will flower in the coming season.
