Euonymus alatus Compactus - Winged Spindle - Plant in 2 L Pot

Euonymus alatus are native across a very wide range of the globe. Euonymus alatus Compactus is a compact, slower growing, dense cultivar, granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. A superb dark leaved shrub, that truly comes into its own in autumn when the foliage turns vivid shades of scarlet and crimson. Once seen, you will understand the common name of Burning Bush! The summer flowers are insignificant, but they result in very attractive fruits which split open to form four rich pink winged lobes with a bright orange seed at the centre. While the fruit is not as abundant as the native Splindle tree (Euonymus europeaus) it is none the less attractive. The mature bark is corky and attractively winged. Easy to grow in virtually any moist well drained soil and a sunny or semi shade location. The compact nature of this plant makes it a good candidate for the patio or where space is limited. When growing in a pot or container use a good quality compost. Hungry plants are poor performers, so we recommend adding Osmocote pro fertiliser of 8-9 months formulation annually. One application lasts the whole year. Pruning is seldom necessary but should be undertaken in early spring as necessary to control growth.
