Eucalyptus gunnii is native to much of Tasmania and is one of the hardiest of the commonly planted Eucalyptus. Granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit Eucalyptus gunnii is a superb evergreen, tree, shrub, or accent plant, depending on how the plant is grown/pruned. Young leaves rounded and a startling silver blue, aging to an attractive sickle shape and sage green in colour. When grown as a tree, superb peeling brown bark reveals the typical white, grey, green and cream trunk. Flowers white and fluffy in clusters in January and February. Excellent as cut foliage for flower arranging and good for firewood. If pruned as a shrub in the border or a container, the leaves will be primarily the younger silver ones and the plant can be maintained as a highly attractive shrub. The leaves are heavily aromatic when bruised. The plant produces a sweet sap similar to maple syrup. When bottled and capped, the liquid ferments and resembles apple cider, hence cider gum. The sweet foliage is eagerly eaten by livestock. Eucalytpus wood is dense and very durable, despite the rapid rate of growth. Easy to grow in full sun in most acid to neutral soils Do not plant close to buildings as the roots will readily undermine the foundations. If planting in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.

Please Note. These plants have been stopped and are growing as multiple branched shrubs. As they grow very rapidly, please be aware that it is likely your plant will have been pruned prior to dispatch
