A superb plant and especially if you are looking to create that tropical/Mediterranean effect. Cordyline x banksii Paso Doble is a recent introduction that has very striking rich deep, purple and pink striped, sword shaped, evergreen leaves that form a tall, robust column. Cordyline x banksii Paso Doble retains it's lower leaves for longer than most Cordylines, giving a much bushier effect. Eventually, the plant will form a small trunk. Mature plants should produce masses of small, delightfully fragrant creamy flowers in late summer. Grow in fertile, free draining soil in sun or part shade in a sheltered location. Mature plants are half hardy to around -3C, however it is best given winter frost protection. In mild southern locations, mature plants might survive outside. Cordyline x banksii Paso Doble can easily be grown in a pot or other container on the patio or in a greenhouse or large conservatory. If in a pot it cannot stay outside over winter, except in the very mildest of locations. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. The image of the plants in the wooden photo booth are from the current batch
