This superb Cordyline cultivar, bred in New Zealand is a real stunner. Beautiful evergreen, long, thick, sword shaped, shiny, rich purple red foliage. As Cordyline obtecta Super Star matures it forms a thick stem. A very striking plant and altogether more presence than previous cultivars. Excellent in a sheltered border in mild locations or as a splendid patio plant either individually or as part of a display. With all new cultivars it is difficult to be precise about cold tolerance however indications are this Cordyline will tolerate temperatures down to -6C when mature. Protect young plants with little or no stem from frost. Easy to grow in most well drained soils and a sheltered sunny location. Will tolerate very poor soils as long as they are well drained. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden, or can be seen at is best when grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
