This superb evergreen Clematis is native to central and western China, northern Myanmar and Northern Vietnam. It was introduced by Ernest Wilson around 1900 and quickly became a popular garden and landscape plant. In general, Clematis like to be planted in full sun, however, this large leaved, evergreen species is prized for its superb performance in semi to full shade locations, as well as sunny ones. A fertile moist well drained soil will give best results, but in truth, they are seldom very fussy and armandii is quite happy in chalky soils! Clematis armandii is a vigorous plant with great flowering and covering capacity. The flowers are creamy white, produced in abundance in April and May are of a good size with a strong fragrance. A vigorous plant with great flowering and covering capacity. This Clematis is in group 1 for pruning and if it becomes too large, it can easily be cut back after flowering. Can be used in mixed planting, as a standalone plant or in pots and containers and will benefit from a framework of some description to twine around. When growing in a pot or other container, use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmocote pro 8-9 month applied in late spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
