Callistemon Masotti Mini Red - Bottlebrush - Plant in 2 L Pot

Callistemon are found in the wild only in Australia and Tasmania. They were introduced to the UK as a garden plant around 1798. Mini Red is a dwarf cultivar that is perfect for small gardens, and patio containers. A magnificent sight to behold when in full flower it produces in abundance the typical long bottle brush shaped flowers of bright crimson red with prominent stamens from April to May or June. The leaves are soft, thin and wreath the branches which have a slightly arching habit the combination of the two makes for quite a handsome plant even when not in flower. Easy to grow in full sun in acidic to neutral, moist, free draining soils. In colder areas they are best grown in a sheltered location and given protection during hard winter weather. Good plant for seaside locations. They can be used in a mixed planting as a central specimen plant or in a container. If planting in a pot or other container, use a good quality compost. To assist drainage you can add twenty percent by volume of Melcourt Horticultural Grit to the compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
