Betula utilis Jacquemontii is one of the most popular, small, deciduous trees. Its exact history appears to have been lost in antiquity but most likely it was discovered in its natural habitat in Northern India, Kashmir and west and central Nepal. Widely grown for its beautiful white bark, that appears on the main trunks and larger branches, it makes an excellent feature when planted singularly or in groups. It is possible to wash the bark with soapy water to maintain its lustre, however it is renewed every year when the bark peels! This listing is for a multi stem plant. Jacquemontii can only be reliably reproduced by vegetative propagation. These plants are cutting raised starter plants. Easy to grow in full sun or semi shade in most, moist free draining soils. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. In a pot or container use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring.
