Acer palmatum Garnet - Japanese Acer - Grafted Plant in 9 cm Pot

Native to Japan China and Korea the Acer palmatums were introduced from Japan around the middle 1800's. Acer palmatums have to be among the most beautiful of all our garden trees. Acer palmatum Garnet has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit Garnet, was raised in the Netherlands around 1950 and is one of the best and most reliable of the dissected, purple leaved Japanese Acers. Rich reddish purple leaves that hold their colour well in summer, turn to a stunning bright red in autumn. Attractive red winged fruits appear in autumn and in winter the structure of the leafless tree brings grace to the garden. Acer palmatum Garnet has a dense arching habit that forms an attractive small tree. Garnet can only reliably be reproduced by grafting. To ensure a full life span, trueness to type and therefore colour, these plants are grafted. Really a very beautiful tree and ideal for small gardens in the border or in pots. Use in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen. When growing in pots or containers use a good quality ericaceous compost. These plants are not ericaceous and can be grown in multi purpose compost, however they will grow better and give better colour in neutral to acid soil. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires.
